Meet Kendyll

For Kendyll, an EarnLearn Industrial Measurements and Control (IMC) trainee and maintenance electrician with Fonterra in Lichfield, no two days at work are the same, and she wouldn’t have it any other way.

 

EarnLearn is the only New Zealand industry training provider now offering the NZ Certificates in Industrial Measurement and Control (Practice) (Level 4).

 

The qualification produces technicians who are able to keep critical industries, such as manufacturing and processing, energy and water, operating safely, efficiently and accurately with less downtime.

 

For Kendyll that means she is learning vital news skills that sit well alongside her electrical skills in her work for Fonterra. “You’re measuring the flow of a process, doing the PH of a solution. There’s a lot of variety in the work and it always keeps you on your toes. It’s the next stepping stone in my career.”

 

Kendyll is also proud to be a woman training in what has traditionally been a male-dominated trade.

EarnLearn programme manager [NAME HERE] says: “We’re really pleased to be launching EarnLearn’s new Industrial Measurement and Control (Practice) Level 4 programme. It’s been designed around practical, workplace-based learning, giving learners the opportunity to develop and demonstrate their skills using the equipment and systems they work with every day.

 

“With 11 on-job assessments completed in the workplace, the programme provides a clear pathway for people with electrical or mechanical experience to develop their skills and progress into industrial instrumentation roles.”

 

The NZC IMC practice programme typically takes around 14 months to complete. Training is workplace-based with skills developed on the job in real industrial environments, Assessment evidence is gathered from day-to-day tasks completed by the trainee then verified by a qualified workplace verifier, supported by EarnLearn assessors.

 

Trainees who complete the programme will have industry-read skills in:

 

Measurement: Precisely capturing physical parameters like temperature, pressure, flow rate, and chemical composition, using sensors and transducers that convert physical quantities into electrical signals.

Control: Applying measured data to regulate and optimise processes, often via programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems to adjust valves, pumps, and other actuators.

IMC training also supports product quality through precise monitoring, safe operating conditions via monitoring and early intervention, more efficient resource use with less waste, and control of emissions and pollutants.

As well as IMC, EarnLearn provides NZQA-approved training and apprenticeships to specialist trades such as electrical (including recognition of current competence), and plumbing, gasfitting and drainlaying (PGD).
